Royal Malewane Outreach
“Let us reach out to the children. Let us do whatever we can to support their fight to rise above their pain and suffering.” – Nelson Mandela. While photographing a family on vacation at The Royal Malewane Game Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park, I accompanied the family when they visited the local creche to deliver food and soccer balls to the children. It was such a humbling experience. The work being done is truly inspiring.
Some background information - In May 2010, Royal Malewane (a part of The Royal Portfolio) started a community project focused on children and education. They began working with the Sigagule Nhluvuko Creche which is just a few kilometres from their lodge.
Since inception, to name but a few achievements, they have equipped the creche with educational materials, built new classrooms, a kitchen, a jungle gym and playground + implemented basic utilities we all take for granted – Such as running water and toilets.
A real privilege to have been able to visit the crèche and interact with the kids. Here are some photographs. The project is ongoing with monthly contributions.
